About Us
Our Mission
The HeLa Ventures Adventure Education Centre is dedicated to providing individuals, groups, and families with positive and educational outdoor experiences. Our programs are delivered from a holistic perspective and encourage a healthy lifestyle through the incorporation of activities in a safe, respectful manner. Safety and environmental stewardship are the guiding factors for all of our programs,
HeLa Ventures is an accredited member of the Alberta Camping Association.
Who we are
The HeLa Ventures team consists of professional educators, qualified instructors and certified guides that specialize in the delivery of adventure programs. Our areas of expertise include lake canoeing, whitewater canoeing, river tripping, rafting, rock climbing, rappelling, hiking, backpacking, mountain biking and wilderness living skills. The instructor to student ratio will vary depending on the type of activity. In any of our programs, safety is ALWAYS our first priority, and the quality of instruction/guiding reflects that mandate. Further details on the qualifications of the instructors/guides for your particular program will be provided upon registration.
Facility
The facility offers opportunities for groups to participate in multi-day outdoor programs. Our field school functions as a base camp for our many out trips while also filling the role as our home base for a wide variety of curriculum-based outdoor and adventure education activities.

Accommodations
The accommodation provided is dependent upon the group's objectives. Most of our programs are based from our field camp located 24 km west of Rocky Mountain House. Participants may choose to sleep in one of our rustic cabins, or may choose to bring their own recreational vehicle or tent to park in one of the 20 electrically serviced campsites. Washhouses complete with warm showers are available for your convenience. A dining and meeting hall and a guesthouse serve as gathering places for groups. During out-trips participants stay in tents.
Meals
Most of the programs include a full meal service. Menus, designed and prepared by a home economist, are well balanced and reflect a healthy lifestyle. Special menus may be requested, and we do our best to accommodate special dietary considerations (including food allergies). All of the meals are homemade and served in a comfortable, informal atmosphere. Because most of our programs involve rather strenuous outdoor activities, a variety of healthy snacks are provided throughout the day.
Equipment
Equipment required for all our programs is provided. For most programs, participants are required to bring a helmet. Full details of required equipment and costs will be provided upon registration.
Paddling gear rental
A variety of paddling gear is available for rent including canoes, paddles, PFDs and throw bags. See our Canoe Rentals & Shuttles section.
What do the participants need to bring?
To ensure your students enjoy their visit to our field camp, here is a participant's equipment list detailing what every student requires.
