MAS Program Summaries

MAS 100 SERIES

The MAS 100 series is the foundation for our Mountain Adventure School (MAS) programs. MAS 100 is ideal for students who have completed Grade 9 (or above) and have not taken CALM or Phys. Ed. 10 (high school courses required for graduation). Through a combination of outdoor pursuit activities and online coursework, students will meet curriculum objectives for all courses.

The MAS 100 series includes 4 options:

  • MAS 101

    • 13 day program based at the HeLa Ventures field school

    • offers 10 high school credits

  • MAS 102

    • 5 day program based in Edmonton

    • offers 8 high school credits

  • MAS 102 + MAS 102MC

    • 5 day program based in Edmonton

    • 5 day program based at the HeLa Ventures field school

    • offers 8 high school credits (102) + 2 high school credits (102MC)

  • CALM only

    • online CALM program. No in-person instruction

MAS 200 SERIES

MAS 200 is our second year program, designed for graduates of a MAS 100 course, or for students finishing grade 10 wishing to join the MAS stream. This program consists of a 14-day remote camp based at our HeLa Ventures field school where students will have the opportunity to earn 10 credits, while building on their previous outdoor experiences. 

MAS 300 SERIES

MAS 300 is our third year program, designed for graduates of MAS 200. This program consists of a 14-day remote camp based at our HeLa Ventures field school where students will have the opportunity to earn 10 credits, while focusing on outdoor leadership and excursions. 

MAS 400 SERIES

MAS 400 is our fourth year program, designed for graduates of MAS 300. MAS 401 and 401 practicum are designed as stepping stones into the guiding industry, while MAS 450 is designed as a culmination of all the paddling and excursions experience gained in previous years. 

 

The MAS 400 series includes 3 options:

  • MAS 401

    • 1 day onsite training

    • 4 day Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA)

  • MAS 401 practicum

    • Work experience component (Guide-in-Training)

    • Offered as an add-on to 401 (MUST complete 401 in order to qualify for practicum)

  • MAS 450

    • 6 day remote river trip + 5 days of planning, preparation and travel

    • Can be done on its own or in combination with 401/401 practicum
