The Adventure Leadership Practicum (ALP) is designed for individuals interested in careers related to outdoor education, environmental education, or adventure tourism. Our program was designed under the premiss that in order to become a qualified guide, you need formal training, certifications and experience.  ALP provides these three requirements in one comprehensive package. Combining formal training, certifications, and work experience, ALP is one of the most comprehensive outdoor guide training programs in Canada, led by some of the top instructor trainers in the country. Our certification program stands out in the realm of outdoor guide training by offering an innovative blend of structured training and certification, seamlessly integrated with a mentorship-driven work experience. This ensures that students not only acquire essential theoretical knowledge, but also gain invaluable insights through direct mentorship from seasoned guides.

During the 3.5 month training program, participants achieve training and certifications in Wilderness First Aid, Swiftwater Rescue, and a variety of outdoor pursuits, including Lake and River Canoeing, Rafting, Rock Climbing, Trail Biking, Hiking, Wilderness Living Skills and Orienteering. Following the formal training, a work experience component of the program provides opportunities to apply knowledge and skills obtained. This work experience develops leadership skills under the mentorship of experienced and highly trained instructors.

BASED IN ALBERTA'S STUNNING WEST COUNTRY

Located just west of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, the HeLa facility is the home base for ALP, while the beautiful lakes, North Saskatchewan River, and rugged mountains nearby are the outdoor classroom. ALP is an all-inclusive semester, with food and accommodations provided; no need to worry about any external costs.
