The river originates at the mighty Columbia Icefields in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, travelling over 1,200km through pristine mountains, boreal forest and rolling prairies before emptying into Hudson Bay.

The stretch between Nordegg and Rocky Mountain House is one of the most scenic along the river.
