The Adventure Leadership Practicum (ALP) is designed for individuals interested in careers related to outdoor education, environmental education, or adventure tourism. Combining formal training, certifications, and work experience, ALP is one of the most comprehensive guide training programs in Canada, led by some of the top instructor trainers in the country.

During the 3.5 month ALP program, participants achieve training and certifications in Wilderness First Aid, Swiftwater Rescue, and a variety of outdoor pursuits, including Lake and River Canoeing, Rafting, Rock Climbing, Trail Biking, Hiking, Wilderness Living Skills and Orienteering. Following the formal training, a work experience component of the program provides opportunities to apply knowledge and skills obtained. This work experience develops leadership skills under the mentorship of experienced and highly trained instructors.

BASED IN ALBERTA'S STUNNING WEST COUNTRY

Located just west of Rocky Mountain House, the HeLa facility is the home base for ALP, while the beautiful lakes, North Saskatchewan River, and rugged mountains nearby are the outdoor classroom. ALP is an all-inclusive semester, with food and accommodations provided; no need to worry about any external costs.

A STEPPING STONE INTO THE GUIDING WORLD
Upon completion of the ALP program, successful candidates are professional, certified outdoor adventure guides with invaluable work experience.  Past graduates of ALP have obtained work throughout Canada and around the world.

Only a limited number of participants are accepted into the program each year. Please apply by February 28th, 2023
